Uninterruptible Power Supplies and Power Protection in Malta

Don’t depend on the grid. Protect your critical infrastructure and protect against downtime.

Enterprise UPS & Power Management in Malta: Powered by Eaton

A UPS has one job: keep your equipment running cleanly when the mains does not. The hard part is matching the right unit to your actual load and the runtime you need, rather than guessing from a box on a shelf. That is what this page is for.

Grid Dependence

Malta's grid is better than it was, but brownouts, spikes and short outages still happen often enough to corrupt a database mid-write, drop a production line, or take a comms room offline at the worst moment. Sirap supplies and supports Eaton uninterruptible power supplies, the global market leader in UPS, across the full range from a single rack to a server room, alongside CET modular systems for larger loads, rack power distribution, and the battery service that keeps it all working in year four. We size each unit to your real load and runtime target, install and configure it, and support it from a team based here in Malta.

Cybersecure Remote Management

Don't let your power infrastructure become a backdoor for ransomware. We deploy Eaton Gigabit Network Cards, the first to meet UL 2900 and IEC 62443 cybersecurity standards, giving your team safe, real-time visibility into battery health and load without compromising your network perimeter.

UPS Right-Sizing

choosing a UPS comes down to a few questions: how much load you are protecting, how long it needs to stay up, whether the equipment can tolerate the brief switch-over of a standby unit or needs the continuous clean power of an online one, and whether you will ever need to manage and monitor it across a network. Get those right and the UPS is invisible, which is the point. Get them wrong and you have either overspent on capacity you never use or, worse, fitted a unit that gives out exactly when you needed it. This hub maps the common situations to the right Eaton model so you can see where you fit before you talk to anyone.

Extended Service Life & Comprehensive SLAs

Maximise the longevity and ROI of your power infrastructure. Eaton’s premium build quality, backed by our proactive local SLAs, ensures long-term operational reliability. We leverage Eaton’s Advanced Battery Management (ABM) technology to intelligently charge your units, extending battery lifecycles by up to 50%. When replacements are finally required, Sirap provides end-to-end lifecycle management, including safe, compliant disposal as an officially approved ERA battery recycling partner in Malta.

Which UPS for which job?

The right answer depends on the load, the runtime and how much the equipment can tolerate a momentary switch-over. Here is how the common scenarios map to Eaton models. If you are not sure which line you need, the topology and sizing notes below explain how to choose.
Most sites run more than one of these: an online UPS on the server room, line-interactive units on the comms rooms and edge cabinets, PDUs distributing power in each rack, and a battery service contract keeping all of it dependable. Buying the estate from one partner means one specification standard and one number to call when something needs attention, rather than a shelf of mismatched units nobody maintains.

Protecting a single rack or comms room

Eaton 5PX Gen2 & 5P Gen2 line-interactive UPS For a server rack, a comms cabinet or the network gear that ties an office together, a line-interactive UPS handles the everyday surges, sags and short outages without the cost of a full online system. The Eaton 5PX Gen2 and 5P Gen2 cover rack and tower loads with network management built in, so IT can monitor them and shut connected equipment down cleanly. We match the model to the load rather than fitting one size everywhere.

Keeping a server room online with no transfer gap

Eaton 9PX & 9SX Gen2 online double-conversion UPS Servers, storage and databases cannot always tolerate the momentary drop a standby unit allows, because a half-second gap can still crash a write. The Eaton 9PX and 9SX Gen2 are double-conversion online UPS units that rebuild the power continuously, so the load runs on clean, uninterrupted power through dirty mains and switches to battery with no gap when an outage hits. We size them to your rack load and the runtime you actually need.

Larger loads and room to scale

Eaton 93PS & CET modular systems Where you protect a full server room, a hosted cage or a building's critical load, power protection becomes a system that has to be right and stay right. The Eaton 93PS protects larger loads with high efficiency and scalable capacity, and for modular setups that grow in steps we add CET modular inverter systems. The aim is capacity you can add to as you grow, not a forklift replacement every time the load climbs.

Three-phase power protection

Eaton 93PS three-phase UPS Larger sites and equipment running on a three-phase supply need a UPS built for it rather than a single-phase unit pushed past its limits. The Eaton 93PS is a three-phase online UPS that scales with your load and runs at high efficiency to keep running costs down. We assess the supply, the load profile and the runtime target, and specify the capacity and battery configuration around them.

Edge sites, network closets and small loads

Eaton 5E Gen2 & 5SC UPS A single switch, a small NAS, a CCTV recorder or an edge cabinet does not need a large UPS, but it does need clean protection so a brief outage does not take the site offline. The Eaton 5E Gen2 and 5SC cover small rack and tower loads cost-effectively, with the 5SC adding network management where you want to monitor an unattended site. Right-sizing here saves money without leaving a gap.

DC Rectifier Systems

Ensure a stable and reliable power source, which is essential for powering sensitive electronics, telecommunication equipment, data centers, and industrial processes. These systems offer efficiency, scalability, and backup power, enhancing operational continuity and reliability in critical infrastructure.

Retail point-of-sale and back-office continuity

Eaton 5P & 5SC UPS At a till, a dealing desk or a back office, a brief outage means a frozen point-of-sale system, a dropped transaction and a queue of customers. The Eaton 5P and 5SC keep the POS, the local server and the network gear running through short outages and let staff shut down cleanly during a longer one, so a power blip does not become lost trade. We size them to the counter and the back-office rack separately.

Manufacturing lines and PLC protection

Eaton 9SX Gen2 & 9PX online UPS On a production line, a momentary dip can halt a PLC, scramble a controller or stop a coder mid-batch, and the restart costs far more than the outage. The Eaton 9SX Gen2 and 9PX give controllers, drives and line IT continuous online power so a brief disturbance does not become a line stop. We protect the control layer specifically, where the cost of a trip is highest.

Healthcare, critical and always-on equipment

Eaton 9PX & 93PS online UPS Where equipment cannot be allowed to drop, in a clinic, a lab or a critical facility, the power has to be continuous and the runtime dependable. The Eaton 9PX and 93PS provide online double-conversion protection with the runtime and monitoring critical sites need, backed by planned battery service so the capacity you specified is still there when it matters. We design these around the consequence of an outage, not just the kit list.

GPU and AI compute rack power

Eaton 9PX & 93PS online UPS A GPU or AI compute rack draws far more power than a standard server rack, and the protection has to match the density. The Eaton 9PX and 93PS deliver the capacity and continuous online power that high-draw Supermicro GPU servers need, sized to the real rack load rather than the nameplate. We plan the power and runtime alongside the compute so the two are specified together.

Rack power distribution and metering

Eaton rack PDUs A UPS protects the rack; a power distribution unit gets that power to every device and, on a metered or switched model, lets you see and control consumption per outlet. Tripp Lite by Eaton rack PDUs cover basic, metered and switched distribution, so you can balance load across phases, monitor draw and power-cycle a device remotely. We specify the PDU alongside the UPS so the whole rack is planned as one.

A UPS connection that will pass a security audit

Eaton Gigabit Network Card (Network-M3) Once a UPS is on the network for monitoring and remote shutdown, its management card is in scope for your security review, and a card with weak firmware is an open door behind the firewall. The Eaton Gigabit Network Card (Network-M3) is certified to UL 2900-1 and IEC 62443-4-2, the recognised cyber-security standards for network-connectable devices, with encrypted communication, signed firmware and configurable user roles. That gives regulated sites a documented answer instead of an exception, tying the UPS estate into the same controls as the rest of your secured infrastructure.

Battery service and replacement

Yuasa batteries & planned service A UPS is only as good as its battery, and a battery string quietly loses capacity over years until the day it cannot carry the runtime you assumed it still had. Sirap supplies Yuasa replacement batteries and planned battery service, so the runtime you specified on day one is still there in year four. This is the part most people forget, and the one that turns a protected site into an unprotected one without anyone noticing.

Lower energy cost from a more efficient UPS

Eaton Energy Saver System A UPS runs every hour of every year, so its efficiency shows up directly on the electricity bill. Eaton's higher-efficiency online units and Energy Saver System reduce the losses a UPS adds, which lowers running cost and the associated carbon over the life of the unit. Because that is an energy-efficiency investment, it can also strengthen a Malta Enterprise grant case. We can put the efficiency figures next to the purchase cost so the total cost of ownership is clear, not just the sticker price.

This is the choice that trips most people up, so it is worth being plain about. A line-interactive UPS, like the Eaton 5P and 5PX, conditions the mains and switches to battery in a few milliseconds when power fails. That switch-over is fast enough for the vast majority of IT equipment, and these units cost less and run very efficiently. They are the right answer for racks, comms rooms, point-of-sale and edge sites.

An online double-conversion UPS, like the Eaton 9SX, 9PX and 93PS, does something different: it continuously rebuilds the power from scratch, so the load never touches the raw mains and there is no transfer gap at all. That continuous, perfectly clean power is what sensitive servers, storage, databases, medical equipment and production controllers need. It costs more and you pay a little in efficiency for that protection, so the honest rule is to use online where a momentary gap would cause real damage, and line-interactive everywhere else. We will tell you which one your equipment actually needs rather than defaulting to the more expensive option.

Within each topology there is a tier ladder, so the type is only half the decision. On the line-interactive side, the 5E Gen2 is the essential tier for workstations, the 5SC is the standard tier for light servers and infrastructure, and the 5P and 5PX are the premium tier. On the online side, the 9E is the value tier, the 9SX is the standard tier and the 9PX is the premium tier, with the 93PS above it for three-phase loads. The useful way to compare is tier against tier: the 5SC and 9SX sit at the same standard class, and the 5P or 5PX line up against the 9PX at the premium class, so the choice within a matched pair is purely whether the load needs continuous, gap-free power. Pick the tier by how critical the load is, then the topology by whether the load can tolerate a momentary transfer.

What Sirap covers for power protection

The UPS is the visible part; the sizing, distribution, monitoring and battery service around it are what keep the protection real over the years. Across a typical engagement we handle:

  • Load assessment, sizing and runtime design
  • Installation, configuration and network integration
  • Monitoring, planned maintenance and battery replacement
  • Total-cost-of-ownership and efficiency figures for budgeting and grant cases
  • Malta-based service cover and response

When a smaller UPS is the right call

More UPS is not always better, and overspecifying would cost you money for nothing. A small office, a single edge cabinet or a back-office rack does not need an online three-phase system; a well-sized line-interactive unit protects it properly for far less, with a clear path to upgrade if the load grows. Equally, runtime has a sensible ceiling: if your real requirement is to ride out short outages and shut down cleanly, paying for an hour of battery you will never use is waste, and a generator is the better answer beyond a certain point. The right specification is the smallest one that genuinely meets your load and runtime targets, and we will tell you when the cheaper option is the right one.

Can a UPS purchase be grant-funded?

Sometimes, yes. For a Malta-based SME, investment in power protection and energy-efficient infrastructure can fall within the digitalisation and business-continuity investment that Malta Enterprise schemes are designed to support, and the efficiency of a modern Eaton UPS can strengthen the case. The one rule that disqualifies most applicants is committing to the purchase before applying, so the sequence matters. Our guide to Malta Enterprise grants explains how the schemes work, and we can provide the itemised quotation and efficiency figures an application needs.

What happens when you call us?

  1. We assess the load. We look at what you are protecting, how long it needs to stay up and whether it needs line-interactive or online power, before we recommend anything.
  2. We specify and quote. You get an itemised proposal sized to your load and runtime, with efficiency and total-cost figures, written so it also supports a grant application if you intend to apply.
  3. We install and maintain. We install and configure the UPS and distribution, integrate the monitoring, and keep it dependable with planned battery service from a team based in Malta.
