Quantum object storage, tape libraries and backup appliances in Malta

Quantum makes storage for data that has to be kept for years and still be readable: object storage, tape libraries and backup appliances. Sirap is an authorised Quantum partner in Malta.

We supply, install and support all three Quantum lines: ActiveScale object storage, Scalar tape libraries and DXi backup appliances. ActiveScale keeps an archive on your own premises behind S3, the interface applications use to talk to Amazon’s cloud storage. ActiveScale Cold Storage moves data nobody reads any more onto tape, and applications still find it in the same place.

Scalar libraries keep a copy on cartridges that sit offline, out of reach of anything on the network. DXi appliances take the daily backups, shrink them with deduplication and lock them against change. Quantum has worked in data storage for more than four decades.

Object storage on your own premises

ActiveScale gives applications an S3 interface on a cluster of at least three nodes in your server room or colocation site. It starts at about 100 TB usable, and nodes are added later without rebalancing the data already stored.

Cold data on tape, in the same bucket

ActiveScale Cold Storage moves rarely read objects onto LTO tape in Scalar libraries, under the S3 Glacier storage class and in the same namespace. Quantum puts the saving on cold data at up to 80% against keeping it all on disk-based object storage. Cold Storage starts at 1 PB.

Backups locked until their retention date

Object Lock in Compliance mode on ActiveScale and Retention Lock on DXi stop copies from being altered or deleted before their retention date. DXi Secure Snapshots sit in storage the network cannot address, and a change to DXi retention needs both an administrator and a security officer to approve it.

An offline copy on tape

Scalar libraries can hold cartridges in an Active Vault partition that the network cannot reach, so ransomware on your servers cannot address them. With LTO-10, each cartridge holds 30 TB before compression.

Backups that take less space

DXi appliances deduplicate backup data as it arrives and replicate only what changed to a second site. The all-flash DXi T-Series fits from 15 to 480 TB usable in one rack unit and ingests up to 113 TB an hour with DXi Accent, by Quantum's figures.

Durability of up to 19 nines

ActiveScale spreads every object across disks and nodes with erasure coding, so losing a disk or a node does not lose data. Quantum rates both storage classes at up to 19 nines of durability, and a three-site layout keeps serving data with one whole site down.

Why choose Sirap for Quantum in Malta?

Quantum through its partner programme

We work with Quantum through its partner programme and quote each system from your own numbers: how much data you hold today, how fast it grows, how much of it is rarely read and how long it must be kept. That decides the node type, the protection policy and whether tape belongs in the design at all.

One storage team for the whole design

We also supply Synology NAS as Malta’s only Synology Platinum Partner, along with actiData LTO libraries, DataCore software-defined storage and Eaton power protection. We design a Quantum system together with the backup software, network and UPS it depends on.

Retention for MGA, DORA and NIS2 audits

For iGaming operators, banks, healthcare providers and public bodies we design retention around copies that cannot be altered, an offline copy on tape and restores that are tested. We supply the infrastructure; your compliance position stays yours.

Installed and supported in Malta

Our technical team installs and commissions Quantum systems on site and connects them to your backup and archive applications. When something fails, we take the support or warranty case up with Quantum for you.

How ActiveScale, Scalar and DXi work together

Quantum builds data protection in three layers, and you can start with one and add the others as retention needs grow. DXi appliances take the daily backups, keep immutable snapshots for fast restores and replicate to a second site. ActiveScale holds the long-term archive, locked with Object Lock. Scalar libraries keep an offline copy on tape, and they are also where ActiveScale Cold Storage writes its cold data.

Quantum in Malta, FAQs

Who supplies Quantum storage in Malta?

We do: Sirap is an authorised Quantum partner in Malta. We supply Quantum ActiveScale object storage including ActiveScale Cold Storage, Scalar tape libraries and DXi backup appliances, and we quote each system from your capacity, growth and retention needs. Ask us for a Quantum quote.

Quantum ActiveScale does. It is ActiveScale object storage on your premises, reached over S3. It holds video and imaging archives, research data, regulated records and long-term backup copies. With ActiveScale Cold Storage, objects that are rarely read move onto tape in the same namespace.

Quantum ActiveScale is aimed at large archives. It starts at about 100 TB usable on a three-node cluster, and Cold Storage from 1 PB. Quantum DXi and Scalar come in smaller sizes, from the 1U DXi T-Series to the Scalar i3 with 25 cartridge slots. For a few tens of terabytes, a Synology NAS or an actiData LTO library is usually the simpler choice, and we will say so.

Quantum protects backups in layers. DXi backup appliances keep Secure Snapshots in storage the network cannot address and hold data under Retention Lock, with changes needing two people to approve them. ActiveScale object storage can store objects under Object Lock in Compliance mode, switched on per bucket, so nobody can delete them before their retention date. Scalar tape libraries can hold cartridges in an Active Vault partition that is offline to the network.

Quantum DXi appliances work as a backup target for Veeam, Veritas NetBackup and Backup Exec, Commvault and others, over network shares, Veritas OST, virtual tape or the Veeam Data Mover Service. Quantum ActiveScale works with most applications that write to S3. We check your software and version before we quote.

Our technical team installs, configures and commissions Quantum systems on site in Malta and connects them to your backup and archive applications. For faults and warranty claims you call us, and we handle the case with Quantum. Each system is specified for your site, so the lead time is set out in the quote.

ActiveScale Object Storage

Quantum ActiveScale is S3 object storage on your own premises, built from P200 and X200 hard-disk nodes or Z200 all-flash nodes, from about 100 TB usable upwards. ActiveScale Cold Storage adds an S3 Glacier class on LTO tape for data that is kept but rarely read, with Object Lock against deletion and ransomware.

Quantum Scalar i6000, i6 and i3 tape libraries

Scalar Tape Libraries

Quantum Scalar libraries run from the compact Scalar i3 and i6, at up to 800 cartridge slots, to the Scalar i6000 and the i7 RAPTOR for large archives. They hold the offline copy of your data in an Active Vault partition and are the tape tier behind ActiveScale Cold Storage.

DXi Backup Appliances

Quantum DXi appliances are deduplicating backup targets with immutable Secure Snapshots and Retention Lock. The all-flash DXi T-Series runs from 15 to 480 TB usable in 1U. DXi replicates to a second DXi, and the physical models also send copies to tape or to ActiveScale.
