Stop labelling pallets
Most Maltese warehouses still code their cases and pallets the same way they did twenty years ago: print a label, peel it, apply it, and hope it sticks. Every one of those steps carries a cost. Label stock and ribbon are consumed by the roll. Applicator heads wear, jam and need servicing. Labels lift at the corner on cold or dusty corrugate, and a failed scan at a customer’s inbound dock can mean a rejected delivery. The Domino Cx-Series removes the label from the equation entirely.
The Cx-Series prints variable data directly onto the case or pallet as it passes on the conveyor. Best-before and batch codes, GS1-128 shipping barcodes, SSCC pallet identifiers, logos and full address blocks are jetted straight onto the corrugate at line speed. There is nothing to apply and nothing to fall off, because the code is part of the box. For a producer running thousands of cases a day, that is a measurable reduction in consumable spend, applicator downtime and waste sent to landfill.
Direct printing is not the right answer for every line, and this page is honest about where a printed label still wins. But for high-throughput case and pallet operations on absorbent corrugate, the Cx-Series is usually the lower-cost, lower-maintenance choice over the life of the line. To see the full cost comparison and a worked ROI model, read our guide: Stop Labelling Pallets: Direct Case & Pallet Printing with Domino Cx in Malta.

Technical specifications
The Cx-Series comes in two models. The compact Cx150i suits lower-throughput lines and is the only model that prints on both porous and non-porous surfaces. The industrial Cx350i is built for high-speed, large-format coding on porous board. Key figures are compared below; full specifications for each model are on its own product page.

Non-porous printing on the Cx150i requires the UV150 UV LED curing system (395 nm, nominal 12 W/cm² @5 mm, 20,000-hour lamp life) fitted immediately after the printhead. The Cx350i prints on porous board only and does not use UV curing.

What is in scope from Sirap
Sirap has been Malta’s Premier IT partner since 1981. When you buy a Cx-Series from us, the printer is the start of the relationship, not the end of it. Our scope covers:
- Site survey and line integration — we assess your conveyor, throughput and code requirements before we quote, so the configuration fits your line rather than the other way round.
- Installation and commissioning — mounting, encoder and product-detect setup, message templates built to your GS1-128 and SSCC formats.
- Operator and maintenance training — including optional Maltese-language operator training so your floor team is confident from day one.
- Genuine Domino ink and parts — held locally, with a defined parts SLA and response time. Ask us about current stock and turnaround.
- Ongoing support — preventive maintenance schedules and engineer callout from a team based here in Malta.
Often paired with
- Domino Mx-Series Print & Apply — when a customer mandates a peel-and-stick label format, or a surface is unsuitable for direct print, the Mx-Series handles the labels you genuinely still need. Many sites run Cx and Mx side by side.
- Zebra ZT411 / ZT400-Series Industrial Printer — for box-level and product-level labelling upstream of the case-coding station.
- Warehouse Automation solutions — to tie case and pallet coding into your wider WMS and conveyor setup.

Could this be grant-funded?
Switching from labels to direct printing eliminates label stock, ribbon and applicator consumables, which gives you an unusually clean carbon-reduction narrative. That makes the Cx-Series a strong fit for Malta Enterprise’s Smart & Sustainable Investment Grant, which can cover up to 50% of eligible expenditure in cash plus a tax credit. Frequently asked questions
Can I still meet GS1-128 and SSCC requirements without a label?
Yes. The Cx-Series prints GS1-128 shipping barcodes and SSCC pallet codes directly onto the case or pallet to the same data standard a label would carry. The information is identical; only the carrier changes. Print quality should be verified against your customers’ inbound scanning requirements during commissioning.
What surfaces does direct printing work best on?
Absorbent corrugate and recycled board are ideal, because the ink keys into the surface and dries quickly. Glossy, coated, wet or shrink-wrapped surfaces are where a printed label may still be the better choice. Sirap assesses your substrate during the site survey.
How does the running cost compare with print-and-apply labelling?
Over the life of a high-throughput line, direct printing typically costs less per case because you remove label stock, ribbon and applicator maintenance from the equation. The exact saving depends on your volume and current consumable spend. Our ROI guide walks through a worked model you can apply to your own numbers.
Will it integrate with our WMS or ERP?
Yes. The Cx controller can pull variable data such as batch, date and SSCC from your WMS or ERP over standard industrial connections, so the right code prints on the right case automatically. Integration scope is confirmed at the survey stage.
When should we still use a labeller instead?
When a customer mandates a specific peel-and-stick label format, when the surface is reflective, wet or wrapped, or for certain cold-chain applications. In those cases the Domino Mx-Series Print & Apply is the right tool, and the two systems often run together on the same site.
What ongoing maintenance does the Cx-Series need?
Far less than an applicator-based system, because there are no mechanical apply heads to wear. Routine care covers the printhead and ink system. Sirap provides preventive maintenance schedules and genuine Domino consumables held locally.
How long does installation take?
This depends on line complexity and integration scope. Sirap gives you a realistic timeline after the site survey, including commissioning and operator training.
