What the actiLib 2U is for

The actiLib 2U is an automated LTO tape library: 24 cartridge slots across two swappable magazines, a dedicated mail slot for adding or removing a single tape without disturbing the rest, and room for one or two drives so backups can run faster or in parallel. It is the tier for an organisation that needs more capacity and more automation than the 8-slot 1U autoloader, but does not yet need a scalable rack-scale library. With LTO-8 it holds up to 288 TB native (720 TB compressed) in a single 2U chassis, all of it able to leave the building as an offline, air-gapped copy. Growing Maltese businesses with a real archive to keep: finance firms holding records for years, media and professional-services operations, and any site running disk-to-disk-to-tape where the tape tier now needs 24 slots. The mail slot and second-drive option make it suited to sites where backups and restores happen often enough that loading efficiency matters. Frequently asked questions

Do I need one drive or two?
One drive handles a standard nightly backup. A second drive lets you run a restore while a backup is going, or split jobs, which matters when your backup and restore windows overlap. We size this to your real schedule.

What is the mail slot for?
It lets you insert or remove a single cartridge, for example to take last night’s tape offsite, without opening the library or interrupting the rotation the other 23 slots are running.

How does the 2U compare to the Kodiak libraries?
The 2U is a fixed 24-slot unit with a single power supply. The Kodiak 3416 and 6807 add scalability and dual redundant power for sites that need to grow capacity or cannot tolerate a power-supply failure. We recommend honestly based on capacity and availability needs.
