actidata Ti-NAS RT Gen2 NAS with LTO Tape Drive
A 2U appliance that puts a RAID NAS and an LTO tape drive in one box, so backup-to-disk-to-tape runs as a single, self-contained system, with the disk-to-tape copy never touching your LAN.

What the Ti-NAS RT Gen2 is for
The Ti-NAS RT Gen2 is a “tape-in-NAS” appliance: a Windows Server-based RAID NAS and an LTO tape drive combined in one 2U rackmount unit. It is built to run the backup-to-disk-to-tape strategy (B2D2T) on its own, the disk gives fast recovery of recent data, and the integrated drive writes a copy to a removable, air-gapped LTO cartridge for offsite retention. The useful part is that the disk-to-tape transfer happens internally, inside the box, so it creates no traffic on your LAN. For a business that wants the resilience of both disk and tape without buying and integrating two separate systems, it is the all-in-one option in the actiData range on our backup and data storage page.
Who it is for
Sites that want a complete backup target in a single appliance: a Maltese SME running Veeam or another Windows-compatible backup tool, a branch or a department that needs both fast restore and an offline copy, and finance or iGaming operators wanting disk-and-tape resilience without assembling it from parts. Where you already run a separate NAS and just need the tape tier, a standalone 1U drive or an autoloader is the more modular choice; the Ti-NAS is for those who want it integrated.
Key features
NAS and LTO in one 2U box. A 6-bay hardware RAID NAS and an integrated LTO tape drive in a single appliance, so the whole B2D2T chain lives in one unit.
Disk-to-tape with no LAN traffic. The copy from the RAID disk to the LTO cartridge runs internally, so backing up to tape does not load your production network.
Open platform, your backup software. Runs Windows Server IoT (CAL-free) on an internal M.2 SSD, so you choose the backup software; Veeam’s Data Mover installs directly on it to drive both the disk target and the tape drive.
Fast networking. Dual 10GbE SFP+ plus dual 1GbE RJ45 for integration into the production network.
Built to be dependable. Server-grade Intel CPU and ECC memory, hardware RAID with CacheVault cache protection, IPMI 2.0 and SNMP monitoring, and an 80PLUS Gold power supply.

What is in scope from Sirap
For the Ti-NAS the value is in commissioning the whole B2D2T chain, not just delivering an appliance. We configure the RAID and capacity, install and license your chosen backup software on the unit, set up the disk target and the internal disk-to-tape job, configure the cartridge rotation and offsite handling, and verify that restores work from both disk and tape. We recommend siting it in a separate fire compartment from the production systems, and we supply genuine LTO media locally. Supported from Malta.
Often paired with
- A separate autoloader or library where the tape side needs more slots or automation than a single integrated drive.
- An Eaton UPS to protect the appliance and its RAID through a power event.
- Cloud backup such as Acronis as the offsite third copy in a full 3-2-1 design.
Could this be grant-funded?
An all-in-one backup and continuity investment can align with Malta Enterprise schemes such as Digitalise Your SME or the Smart & Sustainable Investment Grant, if you apply before committing. Read our guide and see if your project qualifies, or talk to a Sirap engineer.
Frequently asked questions
What does “tape-in-NAS” actually mean?
The appliance contains both a RAID disk NAS and an LTO tape drive. You back up to the disk for fast recovery, then the unit copies that backup internally to a removable tape for offsite, air-gapped retention. It is the full backup-to-disk-to-tape strategy in one box.
Why does “no LAN traffic” matter?
Because the disk-to-tape copy happens inside the appliance, writing the long-retention tape copy does not consume your production network bandwidth, so it can run without slowing everything else down.
Can we use our own backup software?
Yes. It runs Windows Server IoT, so any Windows Server-compatible backup tool that supports LTO will run on it, and Veeam’s Data Mover installs directly on the unit. We set this up with the software you already use.
NAS-plus-tape in one box, or two separate systems?
The Ti-NAS is for when you want it integrated and simple. If you already run a NAS, or need the tape side to scale to many slots, separate units (a drive, autoloader or library plus your existing storage) are more modular. We will advise honestly based on what you already have.
