The Eaton 9E is the value entry to Eaton’s online double-conversion range, the sensible choice when a load needs continuous, fully isolated power but does not need the metering and efficiency of the premium units. It rebuilds the power completely, so there is no transfer gap when the mains fails, and it scales from 6kVA to 20kVA in a tower, with a combo input and extended battery modules. It is the straightforward way to put true online protection on a server room or industrial load without paying for features you will not use.

What is the 9E for?

It protects server rooms, storage, networking and industrial or medical IT that need gap-free power and can be supplied from a single-phase or three-phase feed. The 10kVA, 15kVA and 20kVA models take a combo input, so they can run 3:1 (three-phase in, single-phase out) or 1:1, which suits sites that have three-phase available but a single-phase load. For the standard online tier with a graphical display and a wider rack/tower choice, see the 9SX; for the premium tier, the 9PX. Use our sizing guide to set the rating and runtime.

Key features

True online double conversion. The 9E regulates both voltage and frequency and feeds the load from its own inverter at all times, so the equipment never touches raw mains and there is no break when the power fails.

Combo 3:1 and 1:1 input. The 10, 15 and 20kVA models accept a three-phase or single-phase supply, which gives flexibility on installation and helps balance the building load.

Extended runtime. Supports up to four external battery modules, and XL models with an internal supercharger are available at 10kVA and 20kVA for extra-long runtime.

Clear monitoring. An LCD shows load level, battery level and input and output voltage and frequency, with USB, serial and optional network management.

Which Eaton UPS is right for you?

The 9E is online protection at the value end. If you want a graphical LCD, a rack or tower choice and a 0.9 power factor in smaller ratings, step up to the 9SX; for the highest efficiency, unity or 0.9 power factor and the broadest runtime options, the 9PX is the premium tier. If the load can tolerate a brief transfer, a line-interactive unit such as the 5SC costs less and runs cooler; the topology guide explains the choice.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 9E a true online UPS?

Yes. It is a full online double-conversion unit, so the load always runs on power the UPS has regenerated and there is no transfer time when the mains fails.

Can the 9E run on a three-phase supply?

The 10kVA, 15kVA and 20kVA models take a combo input and can run 3:1 (three-phase in, single-phase out) or 1:1, so they suit sites with a three-phase feed and a single-phase load.

How do I get longer runtime?

Add up to four external battery modules, or choose an XL model at 10kVA or 20kVA, which has an internal supercharger for extra-long runtime. We size the battery to your target using the manufacturer runtime tables.
