The Eaton 9PX is the premium tier of Eaton’s online double-conversion range, for critical servers, storage, network and production equipment that need the cleanest possible power and the lowest running cost. It reaches up to 95% efficiency in full double conversion and up to 98% in high-efficiency mode, runs at a 0.9 power factor, fits a rack or a tower, and can take a single-phase or three-phase input. With virtualisation-ready management, extended runtime and a lithium-ion option for long battery life, it is the unit for the load you protect most carefully. See our guide on total cost of ownership for why the premium unit often costs less to own.
What is the 9PX for?
It protects the most critical single-phase loads, server rooms, storage, databases, network cores and production control, where downtime is expensive and the power must be continuous and fully isolated. The rack/tower form factor and the 1:1 or 3:1 input make it flexible to install, and the high-efficiency mode keeps the running cost close to a line-interactive unit when the mains is clean. For the standard online tier, see the 9SX Gen2 or the smaller 9SX; for larger three-phase loads, the 93PS. Use our sizing guide to set the rating and runtime.
Key features
Highest efficiency in its class. Up to 95% in full online double conversion and up to 98% in high-efficiency mode, which on a load that runs every hour of the year is a real saving in electricity and heat.
0.9 power factor. It delivers around 28% more real power than equivalent VA ratings at lower power factors, so it powers more equipment for its size.
Rack/tower and 1:1 or 3:1 input. One versatile form factor for rack or floor, with a single-phase or three-phase input on the larger ratings to suit the site supply.
Virtualisation-ready management. A network card is included as standard, with energy metering, load-segment control and integration with platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V for orchestrated, graceful shutdown.
Extended and lithium-ion runtime. Up to four external battery modules for longer runtime, with ABM management, and a 9PX Lithium-ion option whose battery lasts eight to ten years for sites where battery access or replacement downtime is costly.
The 9PX family: classic, Gen2 and Lithium-ion
The 9PX is available in more than one form. The established 9PX runs 5kVA to 11kVA at a 0.9 power factor with up to 95% online efficiency. The newer 9PX Gen2 moves to unity power factor with up to 97.2% online efficiency, combo C39 outlets and the secure Network-M3 card included, with a three-year warranty on registration. The 9PX Lithium-ion swaps the sealed lead-acid battery for a lithium pack rated for an eight to ten year service life, which suits hard-to-access or high-temperature sites and reduces battery replacement visits. We will help you choose between them on power factor, efficiency, runtime and battery life. The datasheets for all three are below.

Which Eaton UPS is right for you?
The 9PX is the premium single-phase online unit. If you do not need the highest efficiency, metering or lithium option, the 9SX Gen2 covers the same 5kVA to 11kVA power at the standard tier, and the smaller 9SX runs 700VA to 3000VA. For larger three-phase loads, step up to the 93PS. If the load can tolerate a brief transfer, the line-interactive 5PX Gen2 is the cooler, cheaper peer; the topology guide explains the choice.
Frequently asked questions
How efficient is the 9PX?
The 9PX reaches up to 95% in full online double conversion and up to 98% in high-efficiency mode. The newer 9PX Gen2 reaches up to 97.2% online at unity power factor. On a 24/7 load those points add up in electricity and cooling.
Can the 9PX run on a three-phase supply?
Yes. The larger ratings take a 3:1 input (three-phase in, single-phase out) or a 1:1 single-phase input, so it fits sites that have three-phase available and a single-phase load.
Is a lithium-ion battery option available?
Yes. The 9PX Lithium-ion uses a lithium battery rated for an eight to ten year service life, which suits hard-to-access or warmer sites and cuts the number of battery replacement visits over the life of the unit.
