Captures any barcode. An 800 MHz processor, the highest sensor resolution in its class and Zebra’s PRZM intelligent imaging capture the most problematic codes instantly, dense, poorly printed, crinkled, faded, distorted, dirty or damaged, and electronic codes on dim displays.

Superior range. A scan range up to 61 cm (24 in) and a bright aiming spot let a cashier scan items in a customer’s cart without leaving the cash-wrap.

Capture more than barcodes. Label Parse+ reads GS1 data (expiry, lot, location); Multi-Code Data Formatting captures up to many codes in one trigger pull; the DL version parses driver’s licences for age checks and form-filling; Digimarc digital-watermark support speeds checkout.

Anti-loss tools. Virtual Tether alerts when a cordless DS8178 leaves range or the cradle, and a cradle paging button locates a misplaced scanner, useful at self-checkout.

Instant workflow switching. AutoConfig stores settings in the cradle, so pairing a DS8178 to a different base reconfigures it for a new use case automatically.

Battery or capacitor power?
The PowerPrecision+ battery suits scanners away from a cradle (multi-day scanning per charge); the PowerCap capacitor suits scanners always returned to a cradle (fast top-ups, no battery to manage). Both are swappable on any model.
