What the TC22R is for

The TC22R changes how Maltese businesses handle asset tracking and inventory. High-performance RFID used to mean a bulky sled clipped onto a mobile computer; the TC22R integrates UHF RFID reading into the device body. Designed for retail floors in Sliema, warehouses in Qormi and government asset tracking across the island, it combines the familiarity of an Android smartphone with industry-leading RFID, capable of reading 1,300 tags per second, in a lightweight, ergonomic design that reduces fatigue on long inventory shifts. It fits the warehouse automation and labelling and barcoding workflows Sirap builds.

Who it is for

Maltese retail, logistics and government or corporate asset-management teams doing dedicated, high-volume RFID inventory and tracking. For occasional RFID on a general device, a TC22/TC27 with an RFD40 sled is an option; for the toughest environments, the MC9400/MC9450.

TC22R or a TC22 plus an RFD40 sled?

Many businesses weigh the integrated TC22R against a standard mobile computer paired with a detachable sled. For dedicated inventory tasks the TC22R is usually the better choice:

Ergonomics and balance. A single unit with its centre of gravity optimised for the hand, at just 569 g, lighter and less cumbersome than a two-piece sled combination, reducing wrist strain during intensive cycle counts.

Reliability. A sled’s connection points (Bluetooth or physical pins) can drop out or fail; the fully integrated design eliminates these.

Simplified charging. One unit to charge over USB-C or a single cradle, with no separate sled charger to manage in the backroom.

Key benefits

Industry-leading RFID. A read range up to 12.2 m (40 ft) and 1,300 tags per second, so staff scan entire shelves or pallets in seconds.

Hybrid data capture. An integrated SE4710 1D/2D scan engine reads standard barcodes for pricing and shipping labels without switching devices.

Next-gen connectivity. Wi-Fi 6E for fast, congestion-free data in crowded retail and warehouse environments.

All-shift power. A 7,000 mAh PowerPrecision+ battery lasts the longest shifts; it is user-removable.

Mobile POS ready. Built-in NFC and Tap-to-Pay let it double as a mobile point of sale in the aisle.

Real-world applications in Malta

Retail inventory and cycle counting. Perform frequent, accurate cycle counts without closing the store, capturing hundreds of items on shelves or hangers instantly to keep stock accuracy near 100%.

Transport and logistics. Verify inbound and outbound loads on the dock, confirming the right pallets go on the right trucks and reducing shipping errors.

Government and asset management. Track physical assets (laptops, furniture, files) and locate specific tagged items in a room by waving the device, replacing a manual audit.

What is in scope from Sirap

We confirm the TC22R suits your task (it is a dedicated integrated-RFID device, ideal for inventory and asset work), stage the fleet with your apps and settings, supply RFID labels and accessories, and support it locally. Where occasional RFID on a general-purpose device or the toughest ruggedness is the real need, we will recommend the TC22 with a sled or an MC-series device instead.

Frequently asked questions

How far and fast does it read RFID?
Up to 1,300 tags per second at a range up to 12.2 m (40 ft), enough to scan whole shelves or pallets in seconds.

Does it scan ordinary barcodes too?
Yes, via the integrated SE4710 1D/2D engine, so workers read pricing and shipping barcodes without a second device.

Why not just add a sled to a TC22?
For dedicated inventory the integrated TC22R is lighter, better balanced, more reliable (no sled connection to drop) and simpler to charge. A sled still makes sense when RFID is only occasional on an otherwise general device.
