What the ZT231 is for
The ZT231 is Zebra’s mid-range industrial label printer, the step up from a desktop unit for a business that prints all day but does not need the heaviest 24/7 machine. Its metal frame suits light-industrial environments, and it prints crisp text, barcodes and 2D codes at up to 305 mm/s (12 ips at 203 dpi), with an optional 300 dpi for fine detail. It is a common choice for warehouse and manufacturing labelling, compliance and shipping labels, and product and shelf labels, and it fits the wider labelling and barcoding and warehouse automation setups Sirap builds. The ZT231R variant adds UHF RFID encoding for track-and-trace.
Who it is for
Maltese manufacturing, logistics and retail operations that need dependable industrial printing without the cost or footprint of a heavy-duty machine. Where volumes are lighter or space is tight, a ZD-series desktop printer may be the better fit; where you run a high-volume 24/7 line, step up to the ZT400 or ZT600. For the entry industrial tier, see the ZT111.
Easy to run
Less training for whoever operates it. An optional 4.3in colour touchscreen with on-screen wizards and how-to videos lets an operator load media and clear a fault with a gloved finger, without reaching for a manual. Colour-coded media cues and a bi-fold door make daily reloading quick.
Drops into what you already run. It is backwards compatible and includes printer emulations, so in most cases it replaces another brand without rewriting your label formats or code.
Simple for IT to manage. Zebra’s Print DNA suite lets your team configure, monitor and troubleshoot the printer on site or remotely from a browser dashboard, so a problem is triaged before it becomes downtime.
Built to perform and last
Keeps up with the line. Print speeds up to 305 mm/s (12 ips) at 203 dpi mean coding rarely becomes the bottleneck, and an optional 300 dpi gives crisp small text and dense 2D codes.
Made for a working floor. A durable metal frame suits light-industrial use, while a compact footprint and a bi-fold door that needs less clearance fit it into a tight workspace.
Plans its own maintenance. Onboard analytics and printhead element-out detection flag service in advance, and tool-less platen and printhead removal keep maintenance fast.
Connects your way. USB, USB Host, RS232 and Ethernet are standard, with Bluetooth (BLE) and NFC tap-to-pair; add Wi-Fi 802.11ac, a second Ethernet or an applicator port as needed.
Grows and stays secure
Add capability when you need it. Field-installable options, a cutter, peeler, liner take-up or UHF RFID (the ZT231R), mean you buy what you need now and extend later rather than replacing the printer.
RFID without the calibration headache. On the ZT231R, Zebra’s adaptive encoding handles label placement, so UHF RFID printing and encoding work without complex setup.
Secured against network threats. A networked printer is an endpoint; Zebra’s PrintSecure lets us configure it over secure connections, find vulnerabilities and block unauthorised access, which matters on a regulated or audited site.

What is in scope from Sirap
We confirm the right ZT231 configuration for your application (resolution, print method, options and connectivity), supply it with genuine Zebra labels and ribbons matched to your substrate, set it up on your network and integrate it with your label software, and support it locally with service and a spare-pool option. For RFID, we configure and verify the encoding rather than leaving you to calibrate it.
Often paired with
- Genuine Zebra labels and ribbons matched to the printer and application.
- Zebra barcode scanners and mobile computers to read what it prints.
- An Eaton UPS for a printer on a production line that cannot stop mid-label.
Which Zebra printer is right for you?
The ZT231 is the mid-range industrial choice. If you print lighter volumes or work in an office or back room, a ZD-series desktop printer is more proportionate. If you run high volumes around the clock or need wider media and more durability, step up to the ZT400 or the heavy-duty ZT600. For the entry industrial tier, see the ZT111. Tell us your volume, media and environment and we will recommend honestly.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the ZT231 and the ZT231R?
The ZT231R adds UHF RFID encoding, so it prints and writes RFID labels for track-and-trace, with Zebra’s adaptive encoding to simplify calibration. Otherwise the two share the same platform.
Can it replace another brand’s printer without re-coding our labels?
Usually yes. It is backwards compatible and includes printer emulations, so in many cases it drops into an existing setup without rewriting label formats.
203 dpi or 300 dpi?
203 dpi suits most shipping, warehouse and general labels and prints faster; 300 dpi is for fine text, small labels and dense 2D codes. We match the resolution to your smallest code and label.
