What the MP72 is for
The MP72 is a bioptic (multi-plane) scanner/scale for the busiest checkout lanes, where weighing produce and scanning a high volume of items quickly is the daily reality. It sets a new standard for checkout speed and adds vision features to cut shrink, while being cheaper to run and easier to service than older bioptics. It anchors the high-volume checkout end of the labelling and barcoding setups Sirap builds for grocery and retail.
Who it is for
Maltese supermarkets and high-volume grocery retailers with manned and self-checkout lanes that need fast scanning plus an integrated scale. For lower-volume lanes or tighter budgets, the single-plane SP72 is more proportionate; for handheld or hands-free scanning, the DS8100 or DS9300.
Faster-than-ever checkouts
Premium scan performance. A megapixel sensor and PRZM intelligent imaging capture virtually any 1D, 2D, GS1 or Digimarc, paper and mobile barcode, even poorly printed, damaged or faded, with offset illumination for reflective phone and glossy codes.
Ready for 2D. Hardware and software advances deliver much better 2D performance, readying lanes for GS1 Digital Link while keeping the easy 1D swipe experience.
Up to 2x larger field of view. Fields of view up to 100% larger than other scanners in its class mean less careful barcode positioning, simpler for experienced cashiers and first-time users alike.
Higher ROI, less shrink
Vision camera option. An optional HD colour camera enables computer-vision applications: produce recognition to speed item selection, loss prevention to confirm the right barcode for an item, and a livestream presence to discourage fraud.
Non-decode alerts. Trigger an alert when an item passes the field of view without a scan, accidental or intentional.
Accurate weighing. An L-shaped platter increases the weighing surface for large items, and Weight Guard senses when an item is not fully on the scale and alerts the POS to prevent an underweight reading.
EAS and loss prevention. Optional EAS deactivates the tag as the item is scanned (Interlock prevents sweethearting), and front- and top-visible good-decode LEDs work with overhead loss-prevention cameras.
A smarter investment
Lowest power in its class. Intelligent Illumination activates LEDs only when merchandise is in the scan zone, using up to 50% less power than other bioptics.
Easy to deploy. Three standard sizes drop into existing cash wraps, with multiple on-board interfaces and auto-host-detect cables.
Durable and serviceable. Over 50% fewer interconnects and PCBs than other multi-plane scanners, solid-state technology, a spill-proof design and Sapphire or DLC glass, plus Remote Diagnostics to monitor illumination, sensors, cameras and the scale without a site visit.
What is in scope from Sirap
A bioptic lane is specified, not picked off a shelf. We confirm the size, scale, vision and EAS options for your lanes, integrate it with your POS, and support it locally. We will recommend the single-plane SP72 honestly where a full bioptic is more than the lane needs. Note: where an approved weighing scale for trade is required, we confirm metrological approval for the Maltese market as part of the quote.
Often paired with
- The single-plane SP72 for smaller lanes in the same store.
- Zebra labels and printers for shelf-edge and weigh labels.
- Zebra handheld scanners on the auxiliary port for bulky items.
Frequently asked questions
Does it weigh produce?
Yes. It is a combined scanner and scale, with an L-shaped platter and Weight Guard to ensure accurate weight capture. Trade-approval for weighing is confirmed at quote for the Maltese market.
What does the vision camera add?
Computer-vision applications: produce recognition, loss prevention (confirming the right barcode for an item) and fraud deterrence via a livestream presence.
MP72 or SP72?
The MP72 is a full bioptic scanner/scale for high-volume lanes; the SP72 is a compact single-plane scanner for lower volumes or tighter budgets. We match it to your throughput and whether you need a scale.
